Professional Experience
F. John Caldwell, Jr., a native of the Philadelphia area, is a seasoned trial attorney with over 32 years’ experience. He has represented clients ranging from large companies, hospitals, insurance companies and their insureds, and the city government in Atlantic City, to small businesses and individuals. He obtained his undergraduate and law degrees from Rutgers University. He distinguished himself in law school as a member of the Rutgers Law Journal, publishing a Note on the topic of private Superfund litigation, and was a research assistant for Michael Dorf, a renowned constitutional law professor and author.
Since graduating from Rutgers Law School, Mr. Caldwell has practiced in a variety of litigation areas including insurance defense, medical malpractice and nursing home defense, environmental law, contract, class action, civil rights, business law disputes, and patent infringement. In addition, he has participated in special counsel investigations into alleged wrongdoing at major utility companies in the New York and Philadelphia metropolitan areas. He was a key team member for Atlantic City in the development of former municipal lands into multi-billion-dollar casino resorts. He has litigated and negotiated the settlement of hundreds of complex civil cases.
A veteran of the United States Coast Guard, Mr. Caldwell served from 1980 through 1984 aboard Coast Guard Cutters Red Oak and Duane. As a crew member on the Coast Guard Cutter Red Oak, his work entailed keeping aids to navigation on station and operating in the Port of Philadelphia and the Delaware River. After graduation from the Navy’s Quartermaster School, he was transferred to the Coast Guard Cutter Duane where he participated as a navigator in search and rescue, drug interdiction, and maritime law enforcement patrols.
Personal
John lives in southwest Florida with his wife, his youngest son, and various pets. He is a member of Temple Emanu-El in Sarasota, was a Scouting USA leader both in New Jersey and Florida for 20 years, and currently volunteers with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Suncoast and ALSO Youth in Sarasota.
